Hello there! I have a story for you. It's about a deer and a wolf who joined forces to survive, yet nature is cruel at times...
WARNING: I would say that this is not suitable to younger readers, I will make this 13+ just in case. And also this is very sad and if you get upset easilly or don't want to read violence and death, click away now. If you continue to read even I put this warning here, it's now on your responsibility to what it will cause to you. I put this here for a reason as I know there is people out there who this might cause something bad.
A Deer with Wolfmother
"Marie no!" Mom yelled. Her scream was a puff. Marie bleated for help. The wolfs sharp teeth broke the skin on her neck. "Marieee!" Marie was being carried away by a big shaggy wolf. Marie could not get away from the firm grib of the sharp teeth.
Later she was laying down in fear. Her head down on ground, trying to look like she wasn't there. The wolfs yellow eyes shone in the evening light. It was panting, Marie could see it's sharp teeth. The wolf had brownish fur with white underbelly. She had greyish black hints on her upper fur. The wolf, with shaggy fur, had a sorrow in her heart.
A mother wolf. She had lost her pups. She was alone. Her mate got shot when he was trying to steal a sheep for the starving family. Dawn whined. She was left alone at the den looking after the pups. The mate had never come back. Dawn looked at the small fawn, a spotted reddish brown animal with puffy short tail, just laying there. Only prey she had gotten in days.
Dawns own pups had died because Dawn wasn't capable of getting enough prey alone. Last one had died only after Dawn was back with the fawn. She had put the half unconscius fawn next to her dying pup and tried to make the pup get up and eat. The pup would not have reacted, and only laid down until he took his final breath next to the small fawn. And now, Dawn was left there with only hopelessness.
The fawn didn't try to run. It was just laying still. Dawn could kill the small creature and feast on it's flesh, but something didn't seem right. Dawn laid her head on her paws, confused of the mixed instincts. The deer was food, but now Dawn would be left alone if the fawn would die. And the fawn was a baby, like her pups, and babies were there for taking care of.
Marie the fawn felt like her heart would explode. Until she felt a change in the wolfs eyes. Marie looked at her side where the dead pup was left laying down, eyes staring into nothingless, without life in them. Marie understood now. She would have been the meal to save the pups life, but it was too late.
Marie clumsily stood up on her tiny hooves. She could try and run away to her mother. She should have. But then, she looked at the wolf mother. Her shiny eyes full of pain and loss. Marie felt a sting in her own heart. And Marie was hungry. She stumbled to the female wolf and pushed her head on the wolfs belly.
Mother wolf stood up and let Marie drink her milk. She would drink until she was full. The wolf mother licked Maries neck where the wounds were made by the her own teeth. But this time, only to clean them. "Mom", Marie made a small bleat. A new mother.
Marie would grow up with the wolf mother. They both kept eachothers alive by tricks never before seen to be done by a wolf and a deer. Marie would bleat in horror until a good-believing doe deer would come to rescue. Yet, there would be a hungry wolf instead, attacking from behind the doe and killing her mercilessly. And when Marie was in danger, Dawn would protect her with all the wolfs might.
Marie would only watch how the deer fell down, every time feeling more satisfied, knowing that no wolf would do that to her as long as Dawn would be with her. And every time, Marie felt more exited to see it happening again. Something twisted in her grew, until one day..
Marie looked at the dead deer. The torn open throath , where the blood was coming out, and she would walk to the dead deer, sniffing the blood. Wolfmother only watched, as Marie licked the deers blood. She was a teen deer now, and autumn was here. She was more of an adult now and soon no doe would react to her bleats. Marie had slowly learned to survive only by leaves and grass and plants instead of milk. She had to learn on her own for what was good for eating and what was not.
But now, the leaves would turn yellow and red, and they were falling down on ground, until they were brown.
During harsh winter they had to change stragedies. Marie would find family groups of doe deer and hang around with them, leading them on purpose towards the hungry Wolfmother. Marie would be untouched and safe, as she watched a deer of her own kind fall dead infront of her, once again. And the deer groups had teached Marie to eat tree bark and twigs for food, when there was no green growing and snow was filling the ground.
The air became cold and the nature fell quiet. It was almost like everything was dead or sleeping. Marie had grown darker shade, fluffy winter fur. It was hard to move around in deep snow with her sharp small hooves, which would not hold her on top of the snow unlike the Wolfmother, who had paws like snowshoes.
It was hard to get food, so at times Marie would eat her own kind from Wolfmothers kills. Cannibalism slowly forming in her twisted mind. She was like a serial killer with a walking weapon. Always planning next murder, perfect and cunning.
And she did feel satisfied, every time it happened.
Two months in the winter, things got harder and harder. Marie would be cabable to only watch how her mother was getting skinny. Marie was failing to get the deer to her. It was hard to even find other deer anymore. They had to leave the best grounds since a wolf pack chased them away. Marie was skinny too, and getting enough food for her growing body was very difficult without other deers helping her.
Marie walked behind her mother. Until suddendly, Mother Dawn fell down in the snow. The doe deer could only watch as her mother wolf was fading away. Marie laid down next to the cold and skinny female wolf to warm her up. The wolf was shaking and she felt so vulnerable and light. Instinctively, they both knew what was to come. Marie laid her head on her mothers back and fell asleep. Their breaths making small clouds in the freezing temperature.
Marie woke up later, her mother laying in snow, motionless. Marie stood up and poked her mother and pulled from her ears. "Mom!" Marie bleated. She was in shock. But her mother would not get up. She was not waking up anymore. Falling snow was forming a layer on the wolfs pelt. Dawns body was frozen still in the snow. There was no warmth of life left in her. And Marie had to leave her dead mother behind.
Marie continued walking in the snow, making her way through the darkening forest. Leaving only one line of footprints now, small deep hoof prints. Her head was low and ears drooping. She was alone. And defenceless, first time in so long. And she had no idea how to survive alone.
Days would grow into weeks, Marie forgot to eat or drink, she was not finding other deer to join into. She was skinny and her head was messy out of starvation. She was trembling while walking, cold air freezing her to the bone.
Without first noticing, she walked into a hungry wolfpack. Marie saw them walking infront of her. She didn't feel like it was the danger. She was so happy to find the wolves. To her, they felt like family. She had found a family.
She ran to the wolves so happily. They were skinny and hungry and angry, also dying of hunger just like Marie. But they were wolves like Wolfmother, yet Marie was nothing but prey to them. Prey that would save the packs life.
And the wolves would attack on her. Marie just stood still as the wolves bite her until she fell on the ground, the sharp teeth cutting into her neck and nose and then, the life would leave her starving and cold body. She did not understand much. Yet, she did die happy. She died with animals that felt like family to her.
And she knew, that soon she would meet her Wolfmother again, and they could hunt together forever..
"There's so much to see tonight, so why would you close your eyes?"
I hope you liked my story, even it had no happy ending. Even it was sad, I wished to try my writing skills on a sad story and I hope I got the feelings right. I tried my best. Also remember, english is not my native language so I might have done some goofing in grammar/words. I did reread and edit this story like 20+ times though, so I hope I got it somewhat right.
THIS STORY IS (c) ME, Silverheart98! Please do not copy or steal my story, it took me hours of work! You can get improvised on this and make your own version, but then you have to make it differend enough, and I would like if you credited me. Even I am not sure if anyone will but meh, writing this just in case.
